Air Coils

Taylor Spring has specialized in supplying air-wound inductor coils since its inception in 1949. While once prominent in the television industry, air coils are now used to enhance medical devices, e-mobility technologies, and many items requiring radio frequency (RF) signals to function correctly.

Also referred to as air core inductors, air coils are highly versatile, serving various applications, especially narrowband RF matching and tuning.

Custom-Manufactured to Your Specifications

All Taylor Spring air coils are custom-manufactured for your specific application. We manufacture several types of air coils with industry-spanning utilizations.

Made in USA

Through-Hole Mounted Coils

Through-hole mounted coils are used just like their name describes. The leads of the coil are inserted through the holes in a printed circuit board (PCB), where they are attached with solder.

Surface Mounted Coils

Surface-mounted coils are used on printed circuit boards, which are attached with solder to pads on the board rather than through holes. Often, they are robotically placed on the boards, and we can offer tape and reel packaging to facilitate this as needed. To be sufficiently soldered to the board, we produce the parts to precise specifications so that the part lays flat, making direct contact with the board.

With over 75 years of experience, Taylor Spring delivers the quality air coils our clients have come to expect.

American Wire Guage (AWG) Sizes

American Wire Gauge (AWG) is used to define wire sizes. Pioneered in the late 1850s, AWG remains the North American measurement standard.

The sizes of insulated wire can range from 6 AWG to 28 AWG, while bare wire can range from 6 AWG to 30 AWG. Depending on the configuration of the coils, the number of turns can range from just a straight length of wire to 70 turns.
